Hey Tom,
The river is open in town from the JUST above the trestle to just past the Roberts street bridge. The water level is about a foot below the top of the wall. The rest of the river is still pretty well iced up.
We get some warm weather and a little rain and the river should open up fast.

Time to head down river with the spud bar and shovel for boat launch cleaning ceramonies.

The water is finally below the wall but just barely. The current is still pretty heavy pushing the chanel markers to about a 45 degree angle.Still a lot of debris floating down river despite the falling water level which is a little odd.Normally, any debris that's going to move out disapears once the river starts dropping.

Tom,was nice to see you at Elkhorn. That Jefferson hutch just plain rocks! I look at it every day. Thanks!

Hello Bryan,
Nice to get a recent report on the river. We WILL be diving it at some point. Most likely June. I dove my first dive yesterday. Pewaukee Lake, and it was nice. Not too cold considering the chilly Spring we have had. Yes I will be at Elkhorn. Stop by if you get there! We will catch up,
Tom

Hey Tom
The river is still over the wall in town. Saw a section of somebodies dock floating down the river yesterday. This high water sucks.
Will you be at the Elkhorn gig next wknd?

Water well over the wall and scooting right along again.

Water has dropped about 3-4" below the wall now and is clearing. That's usually how it goes when the water drops = it clears up. With the recent rains the river has leveled out the last couple days but that trend won't last long once the rain moves on.

Hey Tom
The Rock is dropping like a rock this week. The water is still over the wall in most areas but that should change any day.

At this rate you will be diving in May for sure if you want.

Hey Tom, The way this weather is going you just might have to wait until June before you can dive the Rock. The water had started to level out again but with todays rain and snow melt it will surely go up some more.
The launch I usualy dump my boat in has pretty much been a no go for about a week now.Have to use a public launch if I want to go now = combat boat launching at it's finest.

The river was coming down at a nice pace until we got 2.75" of rain Tuesday. It is now higher than it was a week ago and still rising. Deffinately don't need the rain forcast for this upcoming Fri into Sat.

Not a problem Tom.
I get out fishing on the river as much as I can this time of year so I keep a pretty close eye on the water level per the USGS site that monitors the Rock. From the looks of it the river seems to have reached it's crest today and with any luck should start dropping tomorrow???? I hope.

Though the water is still high it's still about 3 feet lower than this time last year. SUPPOSEDLY this is the 5th highest water level recorded since they have been keeping records. That doesn't seem right to me but what do I know compared to "They". LOL

You don't owe me anything Tom. I'm happy to help out if I can.
Glad you liked the book. There is a lot of intersting info on the local history in that set of books.

If we don't get a pile of rain in the coming weeks I bet you will be diving the Rock before June.

Catch up soon.

Hello Bryan,
Man, keep the info coming! I will throw you a nice bottle at some point from the area just for keeping us posted. Traditionally we start diving over there as soon as the current allows us to. Generally, say around the first of June or so. Gosh I hope sooner as I am going crazy waiting to find some stuff. Hope all is well with you, and I have some more stuff for you the next time we get together! The book was awesome, many Thanks again for that!

The river is now open save for the occasional iceberg and other assorted debris. That will change as the water level drops. The water is well over the wall, very dirty and moving at a pretty fast clip yet.
GEEMAN Posted - 09 Mar 2009 : 18:56:14
The river is pretty much wide open now. There is still some shore ice here and there and a few back sloughs still hold ice.
Not a lot of icebergs coming down but enough (plus trees etc) at times that a guy really needs to keep his head on a swivel.
The water is like chocolate milk and just over the wall now and still rising. With the rain in the forcast I'm sure it will pass flood stage by Wed.
Had 31.6 degree water temp at the surface this am but it rose to almost 34 by this aft. Current was pretty heavy duty too and deffinately not a good day to have your motor crap out 3 miles below the boat launch. LOL
Oh well, Saw a pile of Robins,Redwing Blackbirds,Wood ducks,a BIG flock of Snow Geese (plus a few thousand Canada Geese)and a Loon, all signs spring is almost here.Saw a big ole Otter today too. That was pretty cool as you don't see them on the river too often.
