A. Gettlman Brewing Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Gettelmans were an excellent brewing family with deep roots in Milwaukee. The beer was excellent and very popular. An inscription reads, “A GETTELMAN BREWING CO., MILWAUKEE.” Magdelana Schweickhardt owned the brewery. She fell in love with the foreman and they were married in 1870. His name was Adam Gettelman who was later to give his name to the company.

In 1877, fire struck the brewery buildings and caused more than $31,000 damage before it was finally brought under control. Rebuilding was completed and the A. Gettelman Brewing Company continued to grow in popularity. In 1961, Gettelman Brewing Company was bought by Miller Brewing Company.
