SM Eaton and his crew would regularly harvest tons of ice from nearby lakes. The tons of ice were used throughout the year to produce soda and mineral water. Railroad companies and wealthy individuals were also good customers. The ice was often absolutely clear its entire thickness of thirteen inches.
