Inscription reads “BROWN BURSINGER CITY BREWERY WATERTOWN WIS.” In 1852 Joseph Bursinger established the City Brewery with a capital of $2,000 and three. It became a major brewery and was later capitalized at $80,000! Its beer was “said to be made of pure malt and hops and no drugs of any kind.” It was shipped throughout Wisconsin.
