Graf, John Milwaukee, Wis.

This is the most common variety of the Graf clay bottles, with no cobalt decoration. This is an exceptional example with the original cork holder. This is one of the later stoneware bottles and may have been used as late as the 1890's. By that time Graf was using glass bottles extensively, so it's not clear why stoneware bottles were still being used. It may be that there were simply many in circulation so they continued to re-fill them.
