J L Hoerber Brewer Chicago

Embossing on this brown blob top bottle reads, “J L HOERBER BREWER CHICAGO.” John L. Hoerber was born in Bavaria in 1821. He studied as a brewer and came to America in 1844. He then built a small brewery in Waukegan then returned to Chicago in 1853. Hoerber ran a saloon in connection with it. Under his management, his businesses covered an entire block when he died 1898. His two sons, John L. and William L., succeeded him in the business.
