Jos A Mayer and Co Neenah WI

This brown blob top beer bottle still has the original metal clasp. Embossing reads, “JOS A MAYER & CO NEENAH WIS THIS BOTTLE MUST NOT BE SOLD.” In 1841, Jacob Fred Mayer came to the United States with his parents at the age of six and moved to Neenah. After brief ventures in the beer-brewing business, Mayer moved to Spencer, Wisconsin, and engaged in lumbering. Returning to Neenah and the brewing industry, he worked as a beer agent for Hartig & Manz, operating a local bottling plant. In the late 1890s, he and his son, Joseph A., formed Joseph A. Mayer & Co., and bottled “Miller High Life.”
