Munzinger, Ch. Milwaukee

This stoneware bottle is from Milwaukee. So far it's the only Wisconsin clay bottle known with a cobalt blue decoration over the entire blob and shoulder. The color was used as a case marker so the bottler could easily identify his bottles at a glance. It is stamped "MUNZINGER MILWAUKEE" and is salt glazed. It dates from the 1870's or 1880's.
