New Ulm - kiln furniture

The New Ulm potters used these crudely made pieces as furniture to keep the wares off the floor so the bottoms could be at least partly glazed. The stoneware in this photo show signs of sitting on kiln furniture. This was a common practice, as well as stacking items in the kiln to fit as many pieces as possible for each firing. These items were hand formed and still have the finger prints of the potters, quite possibly belonging to Dauffenbach or Stoeckert.

Brick were also used for kiln furniture. These could be bricks that were made at the same location since these same companies were also known to have made bricks.
