The Union Drug Store opened in 1877 and ended in 1883 was sold to H.K. Ballard. when E.H. Playter left to go to Rice Lake, WI. He returned to Eau Claire in 1885 and took over the Chickering & Godding drug store. He named it Playter's Drug Store, which lasted well into the 1900's.
