Wm. E. & Co Root Beer Milwaukee Wisconsin

This is one of Peters favorites. Debossed, "Wm. E. & Co ROOT BEER MILWAUKEE" It is one of the only Wisconsin bottles the describes it's contents (Root Beer). It also seems to be made from a red clay with an over glaze which is not typical of Wisconsin bottles. It dates from the 1860's. The three flowers or stars embossed on it just add to the character. William Ehrmann is listed in the 1867 Milwaukee City Directory as living in Teutonia north of North Ave. He was working at Phillip Best as a brewer at the time and probably was making root beer in his basement. The bottle appears to date from this time period.
